The granite slab carved with Persian inscriptions is dated 1196/17 December 1781-6 December 1782. The inscription records repairs carried out on behalf of Haidar Ali of Mysore, to the fort of Ambur, now in Tamil Nadu, South India. Haidar Ali's forces had captured the fort during the second Anglo-Mysore war. The panel was given to the museum in 1872.

Physical description
Grey granite slab with three and a half lines of inscriptions in Persian, and 13 lines of Tamil cut irregularly on two vacant spaces on the bottom row. The upper three lines are divided vertically and horizontally by straight, raised bands to form 6 panels; the lower Persian inscription containing the date is contained within a long cartouche with cusped ends. The calligraphy is in relief. The Tamil inscriptions are lightly and irregularly incised at right and left of the dating inscription.
