The first page is blank, followed by maps of Bermuda and a British Airways postcard; two personal photographs of Robert Palmer and his son aged 6 days old; five pages of photographs of Palmer and family with the artist on holiday in Nassau in 1977; an advert for a square egg maker; a two page drawing in pencil of an astronaut's helmet surrounded by text in blue pen, a personal letter from a friend to the artist; clippings of aeroplanes; an article about the ESA spaceflight programme; magazine clippings on European astronauts; a drawing of a masculine woman collaged with Harley Davidson bikes; a poster for 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' along with other promotional materials for the film, including a full press pack for the film release; a 1978 cover of Vogue magazine with Polaroids of the artist's 38th birthday pasted on top; a Star Wars display with pink neon lights in the window of a Kickers store; a clipping of Christopher Reeve, an autographed postcard of Tom Baker; an advert for Bird's Eye blackcurrant cheesecake; a pencil drawing of the artist; comic strips; Star Wars ephemera and cards of the various characters; a scratch and sniff card from the Southern California Gas Company in English and Spanish; clippings of figures in space age body suits and masks; a letter from Holland to the artist about punk literature; a March 1978 Sunday Times magazine cover about skateboarding; an article about ecological homes; a film still from 'The Green Slime'; a postcard of the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci; orange wrappers and various travel tickets/boarding passes; a map of Corfu; a Greek postcard of a sculptured figure with an erect phallus; a postcard of Grauman's Chinese theatre in Hollywood; a crayon drawing by a friend of the artist depicting a landscape with male bather in Corfu; two postcards from America from a Mervyn to the artist; an invoice from Warner & Sons; a cover of the Radio Times with a 'Vision of the Future' theme, March 1978; designs for radios; a fold out poster for 'Island'; an invoice for £905.70 for the artist's trip to China in 1978; a communist poster with industrial theme and red star, followed by several blank pages. A flyer for the Textile Dept degree exhibiton of 1979 at Central School, a fabric napkin for Chalk's airline, Paradise Island, Bahamas; a series of photographs of the wedding of Josephine Florent and David Harper in 1980, featuring Squires, Bryan Ferry and Robert Palmer; a Scottish Arts Council programme of events and leaflet for 'Textiles North'; two photographs of a young man called Dennis; a postcard of a triumphal arch; a copy of David Exley's dress print design motifs and a 3D postcard of twin towers with pyramids and moon. Following one blank page, there follows seven pages, recto-verso, of David Exley's photographs of a trip to America, headed 'David Exley Discovers America' including a gay pride celebration and a flyer for a leathermen party, collaged over a newspaper clipping depicting six images of Grace Jones singing live; a cut paper silhouette of a tiger in orange and black; designs on tracing paper; a phrenology head wearing a leather fetish mask; postcards of San Francisco and Palm Springs alongside photographs of American cities taken from aeroplane windows; photographs of friends and David Exley posing with young men; a photograph of the Chrysler building; a Mickey Mouse sticker; a Visa bill from a bookshop; a drawing in marker pen lettered 'Quicky drawing of Robert P. (Palmer) by ES'; two 8x10 photographs dated 1980 depicting industrial aspects of the New York skyline, and skyscrapers; and a Christmas greetings note from Exley to Squires including Exley's San Francisco address.
In the centre of these David Exley pages is a page of Polaroids lettered 'Meanwhile back in London and England' with various images of interiors at 19, Plympton Avenue NW6, and a young man called Gary, all dated 1982. Then follows a diploma awarded to Squires from the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers; two pages of photographs depicting T-shirts covered in assorted logos and naked men, designed by Exley in 1985-6; eight blank pages; an itinerary for a work trip to Australia by Squires in October 1986 with a list of his appointments; a ticket for a cruise on the River Nile with a pen drawing of the view from the boat; a map of Egypt, alongside salt and sugar packets from Egypt Air; a detailed itinerary of the cruise from Aswan to Cairo in December 1986; and a leaflet describing a set of 12 postcards of Ancient Egyptian Burial Customs, published by the British Museum. Then follows 17 pages recto-verso largely consisting of snapshot photographs of Islamic ceramics and fabric designs, exhibits in the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo, views from the river at Luxor, groups of people by the river in Cairo, bar and hotel reciepts, a watercolour of mountains and the River Nile, hand-written notes and observations by the artist.
Then follows a Japanese print of Kuniyoshi, lettered in pencil 'printed 1850s'; a drawing on tracing paper of America with stars and stripes, signed Wendy; four Polaroids of vintage metal toys; then 17 blank pages.
Following this is a magazine clipping of Andrew Holmes drawings and prints of China in 1983 at the Thumb Gallery in London; a page of Polaroids which have been drawn on and augmented depicting groups of the artist's friends at a party; a yellow and blue Keith Haring print of the Pop Shop, lettered in pencil with the artist's name and 'Died of AIDS 1989?'; guest passes to Robert Palmer concerts and wine bottle labels; a series of magazine clippings of the Corvette Bertone 1983-4; images of Basle in Switzerland; a large rectangle of blue fabric, possibly from a T-shirt, depicting a 1985 Keith Haring design with UFO and pyramids; an exhibition guide for a Howard Hodgkin show at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1985; a seating plan for a wedding in 1985 with the note 'This is the last wedding reception I've attended. These are off the list of things to do' and 'Martin now divorced'; a red pen drawing of a hand; a postcard of a cat in front of the pyramids; a Free South Africa Keith Haring postcard; photographs of female friends in Barcelona; clippings from Dutch press about a Mozart opera, followed by 16 blank pages.
Following this are more pages with mementos of events attended, Polaroids of friends, including a wake for Jack Waldman in 1986; tickets, aftershow passes and clippings for a Robert Palmer concert at Radio City Music Hall; eleven photographs collaged together of a street in Notting Hill/Holland Park; a postcard of two men in bed with hangovers; a rear view postcard of Michelangelo's David; ephemera relating to a Marianne Straub exhibition in 1986 alongside a typed letter from Straub to Squires; a pen drawing of a figure behind swathes of curtains; two double page spreads of photographs taken at various villas in Italy, particularly Venice; four square swatches of colourful fabrics; two pages of information about a Gordon Crook exhibition in 1989 with a photocopy of a postcard from Crook to Squires; photographs of Squires in the late 1980s wearing suits and sitting in offices; a photograph of Nelson's Column shrouded in white fabric with scaffolding; a photograph of Walter Gropius' house in Chelsea; photographs of the interiors of the artist's Ladbroke Grove house; seven pages of photographs of figures in costume from the Venice carnival, Venetian architecture, gondolas and canals; four more swatches of fabric; three magazine prints of Canaletto paintings; a pencil drawing of a man reclining in a chair; and finally, an article on the artist from an Australian publication of 'Belle' magazine in Feb/March 1988.
