A rectangular paper and manuscript box (bunko) with a tray. Wood covered in gold and silver hiramaki-e and takamaki-e lacquer and gold and silver foil mosaic, with a design of a mountain stream, rocks, peonies and mountain roses. The thin curved edges are decorated with stylised floral scrolls and chrysanthemum flower heads in gold hiramaki-e lacqueron a silver lacquer ground. The inside of the lid and tray depict an autumn scene of rice sheaves hanging out to dry on poles, maple trees, geese and autumn plants at the rocky water's edge of a stream in gold hiramaki-e and takamaki-e lacquer on a nashi-ji (pear-skin ground) lacquer ground.
