Costume design for Alkena in Act 3 of "Amphitryon 38". The design depicts a full length female figure with right hand on hip and left arm extended. The figure wears a pleated, full length white shift with gold belt, and a gold band beneath her breasts. She wears a gold and white scarf draped across the front of the neck which hangs over the shoulders, gold bangles at the wrists, and large gold earrings. Her hair is dressed in a "Roman" style and is crowned with a circle of white roses. Annotated by artist.

This costume design by Anthony Holland is part of an extensive collection of designs donated to the Theatre Museum by the artist in 1996. The design was executed for a production of Jean Giraudoux's play Amphitryon 38 held at the Oxford Repertory Theatre, ca. 1939.

Historical significance: An early example of work by a prolific stage desinger who's career spanned nearly 50 years.
