Bowl of earthenware transfer-printed with underglaze blue, and inside in the middle is an equestrian portrait inscribed 'His Royal Highness FREDERICK DUKE OF YORK', and flanked by British flags and military trophies. Round the inside of the rim is a wide border made up of butterflies, rosettes, floral sprays and shells on a diaper ground. Outside is a Chinese garden with two figures crossing a bridge, and a boat and a pagoda repeated twice, and another landscape with houses and rocks.
