Garuda
Garuda
Place of origin |
A typical North Indian kneeling Garuda with the hands in anjali mudra. Garuda kneels onhis left knee ( which has a snake rearing in front of it) with the right knee raised. His wings are very elaborate, and mirrored by flowing drapery reaching to the base. He wears a five-pointed crown and has a sharp, curving beak. The base is square with a beaded edge and stepped in three tiers. An open cylinder above has head probably which may held the peg of a pierced round offering tray. The beaded edge to the base could suggest Orissa but images of this sort are usually attributred to Himachal.
