Wayang Golek Puppet 1800–1900 In Wayang Golek theatre the puppets are three-dimensional and the performance takes place in full view of the audience. This type of theatre is said to have been introduced to Java in 1584 by a Muslim saint. Later it became associated with stories from the great Indian epics, the Mahabharata and Ramayana.
