Object history
Bought in Kashmir but probably made in Uttar Pradesh, based on stylistic comparisons. 1883 Register entry: 'CARPET (Masnad). Cotton. Printed with a small repeating floral pattern in various colours on a yellow ground, with a large foliated medallion having a border of peacocks in the centre, and two large rosettes at each end. The border is of peacocks alternating with floral cones, with bands of chevrons and floral ornament. Kashmir. 19th cent. L. 27 ft. 10 in. W 10 ft. Bought, 1 pound 8s. 1656 IS. 1883.
