These pieces showcase the skills of the kharadi or lathe turners who were known for crafting wares from turned wood. Each piece was finished with a coating of lacquer (a vegetable and mineral based liquid), applied with a brush. With the exception of indigo, metallic oxides were generally used as pigments and including orpiment, sulphur, prussian blue, red mercury, lamp black and white led.
