Dagger and Sheath

19th century (made)

The blade is pierced, with intricate gilt decoration and is set on both sides with 54 small rounded, red stones (only one of which could be positively identified as a ruby/pink sapphire) with most owing their colour to staining and/or dye residing in the closed setting. The hilt is carved from rock crystal with polished channels that were once gilded. Set into the end of the hilt is a round, colourless or very pale green cabochon (probably a pale emerald or green beryl) that owes its apparent green colour to a stained closed setting.
The silver gilt sheath has intricate, engraved decoration and bears an inscription. It has a faceted rock crystal point set in the tip and is also set with a large, pink, rectangular octagonal spinel and a large, faceted octagonal pale emerald/green beryl that owes its deeper green colour to a stained setting. The sheath is further set with numerous small faceted rubies, rounded red stones (owing most/all of their colour to stained settings), very pale emerald/green beryl (in green-stained settings) and blue sapphires. At either side of the opening there is a metal loop for attachment to clothing etc.
