Ackling's drawings are records of process and the passage of time. He draws by focusing the sun's rays through a magnifying glass, burning lines on pieces of found wood or card. Each line is made of separate black dots - tiny images of the sun. When clouds pass overhead no mark is made, hence the breaks in the lines.
