Physical description

Sari in four fragments, red cotton warps and blue cotton wefts, with weft ikat trellis pattern in the field; one end left plain. Orange silk weft band in both end borders, principle border wider. Side borders of white diamond pattern on dark blue

Object history note

1880 Register entry: Dress piece (Sari). Cotton. Woven with a check pattern of spots in white on a purple ground with narrow side borders in black, white and yellow. The principle end border has transverse bands and stripes in orange silk and white cottton. Madura. 19th cent. L.23 ft. 9 in, W. 3 ft 6 in. Bought 8s 6d
