Plate, porcelain with flat rim and recessed base, painted in famille rose enamels and gold painted in the centre with the Royal arms of Scotland, a shield with a rampant red lion on a field or, supported by the lion and unicorn holding pendants with flags of the same St. Andrews, with mantling and crest, and the mottos below "Nemo me impune lacesset" and above "In defence". Round the well is a spearhead border. On either side of the rim is a medallion of St. Andrew surmounted by a crown of thistle; above and below are gilt monograms.
