Chocolate cup with lid and saucer, painted in underglaze blue with the subject adapted from a European engraving. On the saucer and cover and outside the cup, a pair of European monarchs enthroned, surrounded by panels, containing alternately a flowering shrub and a kneeling Chinese man with birds. Outside the rim of the cup, the inscription 'L'EMPIRE DE LA VERTUE, EST ETABLY JUSQ' AU BOUT DE L'UNIVERS'.
