Made in Belguim in imitation of Chinese egg-shell porcelain of the Qianlong period (1736-1795). In the middle is painted a Chinese lady seated with two children, who are offering her a lotus plant in a vase; by her side are two large vases and a table on which is a bowl holding a fly whisk and writing materials. This group is surrounded by eight borders filled with floral and diaper designs and separated by narrow gold bands. The back of the rim is crimson.

Purchased from W. Oppenheim (43 Fanningdon Street), accessioned in 1899. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project.
