Object history | The underside of the piece may once have contained a metal liner, a light groove round the outside of the rim still visible in places, this may have had the function of securing such a liner. Compare the piece shown as no. 104 in Ip, Yee and Laurence C.S. Tam. Chinese Bamboo Carving (Hong Kong Museum of Art 1978). The interior of this piece is lacquered. The opinion of the authors is that "This type is usually early and may even belong to the 17th century". |
