Plate
1979 (dated)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Plate made of thick, very white porcelain; the glaze gives a "curdled" appearance on the foot. Very flat form, the rim area hand-cut with a lozenge-diaper pattern. A thin gold line is painted round the edge of the rim.
In the centre is a painting of a Dai girl, picking convolvulus from a fence. The design is carried out in a somewhat sketchy hand by someone who does not appear to be practised in decorating porcelain. Overglaze colours used are black, blue, red, yellow, green and pink.
At the right hand side is an inscription in black 'Ji wei dong ri' (Winter's day, 1979) and a red seal 'wang'.
On the base is a black stamped motif of a vase surrounded by five interlocking circles, and beneath 'Zhongguo Wuxi', indicating that the plate was made at Wuxi in Jiangsu province.
