Painting
second half 17th century (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This page belonged to an album of Mughal paintings, Persian calligraphies of different periods and European coloured engravings, now disbound. The volume was given highly ornate borders in the 18th century, perhaps in Delhi or Lucknow, to provide unity. The unidentified Mughal prince stands with an ascetic, a common theme in Mughal painting. It was probably done in about 1650-1700. The repeating floral motifs of the borders may have been intended as patterns for embroiderers and enamellers.
