BUDH SINGH OF BUNDI WITH HIS SONS Opaque watercolour on paper Bundi, Rajasthan 1740-50 IS.95-1955 Given by Stuart Cary Welch Rao Raja Budh Singh ruled the small Rajput state of Bundi from 1702 to 1742. He is shown here with his two sons, Umed Singh and Dip Singh. During Budh Singh’s reign, Bundi was invaded by the neighbouring state of Kota, but Umed Singh reclaimed it. All the figures are wearing the typical Bundi turban of the period. The raja is depicted at a larger scale than the attendant and his sons to emphasise his higher status.(27/9/2013)
