This painting is from a Baramasa series illustrating verses on the twelve months of the Hindu calendar. Aghan is the ninth month, equivalent to November/December. Krishna and Radha are in the foreground. Cranes soar in the distance while smaller birds perch in the trees. The branches of some are bare, and
the grey colour of the background adds to the wintry feeling. [27/9/2013]
