Place of origin |
This is one of a sequence which depicts the journey by boat across the Mumbai harbour to the Panvel jetty, then to Kapoli, up the Bhor Ghat to Lonavla and onwards to Pune.
Panvel was a major landing place for travellers arriving by sea from Bombay (Mumbai). It was considered to be the most convenient and was therefore very busy. In this painting of the tavern, the horse and baggage camels are waiting to be hired by people journeying inland.
