The fountain has almost certainly been in the museum since the 19th century. It it believed to have been found in the V&A Crypt before being sited in Bethnal Green Museum by 1928. It was known to have been cemented to the wall immediately next to the basement back door there from before 1966 to after 1974. It was moved back to the main site for display in the New Restaurant.
