Shiva in his local form of Tyagarajaswamy (Somaskanda) worshipped at Tiruvarur. The main figure of Tyagarajaswamy (Shiva), is seen to the waist, pink-skinned, wearing a yellow jacket, red scarf, flower garlands and jewellery. On his forehead is a wedge-shaped green sect-mark with a red spot in the centre. Beside him is seated a green-skinned female figure, in a scarlet skirt and red choli, similarly decorated. They rest upon an elaborate yellow lotus pedestal, with a large blue cushion behind them. Above them is a ring of flames, and beside the main figure hang a shield, quiver and bow.
