Object history | Details of acquisition unrecorded, accessioned in 1902 |
Historical context | This unfinished relief is one of two tondi which Vasari (1550) states that Michelangelo blocked out, but did not complete, while working on the David (1501-4) in Florence. It was executed for Taddeo Taddei (1470-1528), a patron of both Michelangelo and Raphael, and was originally in his house. |
