Place of origin |
Manuscript book of portion of the epic poem of the Ramayana, composed of 145 narrow pages of prepared palm-leaf, incised with Uriya script and painted in red, black and yellow with 102 illustrations and parts of ilustrations. Between two carved and painted woood covers, modern.
The pages or strips of palm-leaf are in the form of long and narrow rectangles. The majority are inscribed on both sides and have part of a painting on one side; some have only writing on both sides, some writing and painting on the same side, a few painting oneside and no writing, and one leaf is plain. Owing to the narrowness of the strips the paintings are continued over several consectutive leaves. The end boards are chip-carved and incised with foilate scroll-work, tinted in red and black.
