Object history | "Collection of water-colour drawings and tracings from carpets object nos. I.M. 220 to 341-1910 purchased for £10. This series was prepared at Jaipur, about 1900, from carpets in the Royal Palaces and the State Museum, by Rajput students working under the supervision of Sir Swinton Jacob, K.C.I.E., at the instigation of the late William Griggs, Esq., to be reproduced as illustrations (Chromolithographs) in the "Asian Carpets" portfolio published by Messrs Griggs & Sons in 1905." Information given in the Asia department acquisition registers of 1922. Purchased from Messrs Griggs & Sons Ltd., Elm House, Hanover Street, Peckham, London, S.E. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Museum records (Asia Department registers and/or Central Inventory) as part of a 2023 provenance research project.
