This is one of a group of Mughal tiles bought by the museum in 1923. They came from the tomb of Sayyid Muhammad al Madani in Srinagar, Kashmir. The building dates to the mid-fifteenth century, but a gateway ornamented with tiles was added during the reign of Shah Jahan. By 1923, most of the tiles had fallen off the gateway.
