Painting, on cotton, illustrating one of the 550 Jakatas, or stories of the previous lives of Gautama Buddha. The scenes depict the Bodhisattva tempted by ogresses on his quest to become king of Takkasila, bidding farewell to his parents, walking to his house, consenting to take with him five of his household having warned them of perils on the way to Takkisila, meeting the first ogress (of physical beauty) standing before her pavilion and one of the companions succumbing to her charms, eaten by the dark blue ogress in her pavilion. Probably a reduced copy of a fresco painting in a Buddhist temple near Kandy.
