The relief shows Child Christ playing a zither supported by a Virgin saint, probably St. Catherine, in flourishing garden. To the left a maiden scoops water out of an enclosed well, while a reclining male figure is shown close to the archangel St. Michael, and the feet of another male figure appear on the right.

Purchased as a 'panel of a casket' representing 'a medieval romance subject'. This relief copies an Upper Rheinish painting of about 1420 showing the Virgin in the Garden of Paradise (now in the Städelmuseum, Frankfurt-am Main). It is related to a group of wood caskets in the Gothic style with scenes of romance, which were produced in the first quarter of nineteenth century.
