Tea bowl (chawan), of rough circular form and with a deep footring in imitation of one that has been deeply carved into the clay, kanshitsu (dry lacquer) body covered in brown lacquer in imitation of Bizen pottery with a chrysanthemum mon (family crest) in gold hiramaki-e lacquer (metal powder sprinkled on to a lacquer design before the lacquer has hardened so that it is in low relief).
