Place of origin

Room fresheners were essential in well-to-do houses of the 18th century. They were filled with pot-pourri, a fragrant mixture of dried petals, leaves or spices. Chinese porcelain was not imported directly into France, so faience was adapted and refined as a substitute. Here the formal designs are taken from contemporary engravings.
