Boy's mortar board, of black wool over a buckram foundation. The skull cap comes to a point over the forehead and nape of the neck, and is edged with black petersham ribbon; the square board is ornamented with a long black tassel. A length of narrow black elastic has been added to the inside to hold the mortar board to the wearer's head.

Object history
Worn by the donor, Cyril Sidney Herschman (born 12/05/1926 at the Catholic Commercial Rd Hospital in Limehouse East); as a child he lived in Victoria Park Rd, near BGMC, and went to Lorreston Road Infants' School. The mortar board was worn with the Eton suit (B.304-1997) and associated with the braces (B.305-1997).
