BRACKET Cast iron Scotland; 1882-3 Probably made by Macfarlane and Company, Glasgow and illustrated in their catalogue for 1882-3. The bracket was originally painted green to imitate bronze. However, manufacturers frequently pirated designs from each other, so that it is often impossible to be certain about origins. The bracket was designed to form part of the roof or arch support and examples of various designs can still be seen in Victorian buildings, such as railway stations. Museum No. M.170-1978 (07/1994)
