Silver, oblong, with arched top, the lid and sides covered with embossed decoration on a matted background, the latch for the lock of cast silver. No handles or feet. The decorative motifs vary according to their position on the casket. On the front: scrolling and strap-like decoration, a shield with a double-headed eagle in the centre below the lock. The sides of the casket both decorated with the same ornament, ie. scrolling and strap-like decoration around a heart pierced with two ?arrows. The sides of the lid, above, have identical symmetrical scrolling motifs. The back of the casket includes symmetrical figurative elements and scrolling strap-like decoration around a central shield which remains unembossed. Two snails flank the upper part of the blank shield; vizcachas are embossed at either end of the casket. The lid is embossed with three, 8-petalled, flowers along the top below which are symmetrical scrolling patterns of strap-like ornament and foliage. At each corner of the lid is a bird; four other birds arranged more centrally around the lid turn to peck their wings.
