Photographic Christmas/ New Year card, consisting of a small folder of grey leather-textured paper with four flaps, which opens up to show a sepia photographic print of landscape proportions with a deckled edge.
The print shows the Batcheler family: Freda Batcheler is seated on a sofa with her youngest daughter Diana on her lap; the eldest daughter Anne (who has long hair and wears a print frock) is perched on one arm of the sofa, the second daughter Penelope (in a checked frock) sits on her mother's right, the third daughter Rosemary (who has long curls and wears a white-collared frock) sits on her mother's left, and Mr Batcheler is sitting on the other arm of the sofa.
The front of the folder is printed as an envelope, in red and green with a border of holly leaves; two of the flaps are edged in green, the uppermost of the four being decorated with a Christmas seal of bells and holly in red, gold and green; inside the card, one flap is printed in green with the words "Christmas & New Year * Kind Thoughts and all Good Wishes for a very happy Christmas, with Peace and Prosperity in the New Year", the other is printed with the word "Greetings" and is inscribed in blue ink: '(From) Freda & family / Anne 16 / Penelope 12½ / Rosemary 5½ / Diana Barbara 1½ / (To) The Kempson family / With every good wish'.
