Girl's hat of plaited glazed undyed straw trimmed with a wreath of
artificial poppies, marguerites, cornflowers and buttercups). The hat
has a downturned sloping circular brim, and a dome-shaped crown; the
crown has an internal band and tying strings of narrow pale lemon
petersham ribbon.

Worn by one or more of the donor's daughters: Marian
(born 1948), later a member of staff of the V & A's
Metalwork Department, or more probably Louise (born
1950) & Helen (born 1958). The donor's husband was in
the Diplomatic Corps, and the family lived in various
countries, notably China, Poland, the U.S.A. and Italy.
