This pilaster was made for 43 Grosvenor Square, London. The square was laid out by Sir Richard Grosvenor, 1720-25. This pilaster would have been one of several which would have alternated with plain sections of area railing to give a soberly decorative effect. Similar examples can still be seen in London.
