Coffer of wood, the mounts of wrought iron.The chest is covered in cuir bouilli - leather soaked in oil and spirits to make it waterproof. Travelling chests for clothes, linen or valuables were often treated in this way. It is oblong in shape with attached top square lock and twisted loop handle. The strengthening bands and three hasps ending in shells. The cover is further strenghtened by bands of openwork tracery, the front one enriched with six projecting turrets. At either end of the coffer is a handle. The leather is incised with shields amid vine scrolls. The lid bears the scene of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary with vine scrolls featured.
