Physical description

Lock from a door which comprises of cast brass and a gilt case with an applied cast and pierced panel that features the crowned cypher of Charles II. The cypher is repeated without the crown in pierced steel on the inside of the lock with a stamped A. The handles are of cast and stamped brass.

Object history note

Formerly with M.64-1949 on the doors in Bishop's Well House, Chiselhurst, which once belonged to Sir Sammuel Rush Meylick, famous antiquary and armour collector, who died in 1848. It seems possible that they were part of his collection. The locksmith of both these locks may have worked in London.
