The bolt is stamped with a maker's mark in the form of a running man. It is operated by a finely chiselled talbot lying on the top, perhaps a family crest. The body of the lock is decorated with chiselled ornament consisting of two harpies and a grotesque mask. The ground has been matted with a punch.

Steel lock and key, stamped running man and chiselled talbot on bolt, two harpies and a grotesque mask chiselled on body, made in France, ca. 1680, the talbot added in the 18th century, possibly in England
Physical description
The bolt is stamped with a maker's mark in the form of a running man. It is operated by a finely chiselled talbot lying on the top, perhaps a family crest. The body of the lock is decorated with chiselled ornament consisting of two harpies and a grotesque mask. The ground has been matted with a punch.
