Place of origin |
This locket was described as late 15th or early 16th-century when it was acquired in 1903 as part of a collection of German religious pendants.
The design is unusual, and it may not be as old as it was described. Medieval religious jewellery of this kind was very popular in the late 19th century, and many pieces were produced then to meet the demand from collectors.
It represents the Virgin and Child on one side, and St Anne with the Virgin and Child on the other.
