This brooch was given to the museum in 1975 without any information about its provenance. It is unmarked, like many pieces of filigree work.
Its shape, of a stylised lotus flower, and the high quality of the workmanship suggest that it is probably Asian in origin, possibly from Bangladesh or Pakistan. The scroll folded back behind the filigree was originally a stylised stalk at the base of the flower.
