This pendant was bought at Murcia around 1860, when it was described as 17th-century Spanish. The marks show that it is more likely to be Portuguese work, from the second half of the 18th century.

Physical description

Small pendant, consisting of an oval facetted case of rock crystal in a gold frame. The rock crystal contains a tiny flat figure of a monstrance made from sheet gold. The frame consists of plain filigree scrolls, with loops of ribbon wire at the top, bottom and sides, and a flat loop at the top for suspension. There is a ring of grooved ribbon wire threaded through the suspension loop.
