Filigree was one of the most distinctive products of Spanish silversmiths in the 19th century. This ring was bought for the museum by Senor Riano for one shilling and one penny in Cordoba in 1871 as an example of traditional jewellery, but filigree was equally popular for ephemeral jewellery and souvenirs. The green paste is typical of Spanish jewellery of all kinds.

Physical description
Silver-gilt ring set with a green paste. The shank is made from open filigree, widening at the shoulders to enclose a square imitation emerald of green glass in a closed setting.
