Sampler worked on fawn-coloured hessian with orange, green and yellow silks. The sampler is worked with the maker's name (ENID) in block capitals using arrow-head stitch in orange silks, and the date using arrow-head stitch in yellow silks; the hem is worked with long and short blanket stitch in green and yellow silks respectively. The rest of the sampler is worked with blocks of stitches (sometimes in contrasting colours) combined for decorative effect, including back stitch, eye stitch, cross stitch, long-legged cross stitch, blanket stitch and chevron stitch.
