Gallery label
The decoration inspired by various, imprecise 'oriental' sources, perhaps most identifiably the 'Indian tree' or 'Tree of Life' motif. In the mid and late 19th century silvered glass and 'jewelling' of this type was popular and an inexpensive alternative to real silver and precious stones.
