Uplighter

ca.1930 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Uplighter, chromium plated metal, resting on a flat circular base which conceals a three spoke cast iron weight. The shaft is a long narrow cylindrical tube, surmounted by a short cylindrical sleeve which in turn supports an everted cone shaped sheet of metal which acts as a reflector. The cylindrical sleeve houses the screw thread lamp fitting and has four, small, equally spaced inverted vents towards the lower edge. Between these vents and the edge itself, there is a small circular hole which once had a covering plate. The reflector hood has a narrow projecting flange at its base which fits snugly inside the upper edge of the cylindrical sleeve. The hood itself is in the shape of an everted cone, reminiscent in profile of an inverted bell. The inside has a separate metal lining, with a satin finish, and is secured to the external skin by a rolled over rim at the top.
