This group of three dessert stands owes much to a swan service shown by James Dixon and Sons of Sheffield at the International Exhibition held in London in 1862. The Dixon stands were illustrated in the Art Journal Illustrated Catalogue of the International Exhibition, London, 1862, p.70.

Physical description

Dessert stand, silver, parcel-gilt with a circular glass dish, the centre with an additional trumpet shaped, glass vase set in silver, , trilobed gilt base on three shell feet on which rest three silver swans rising from stylised foliage, their wings upraised, their necks curving forward on to their breasts. The swans and foliage are of matted silver. The wings support a trumpet shaped gilt holder for the shallow glass dish, sand blasted with interlacing strapwork ornament.
