Physical description | Pair of chairs. The open back consists of two uprights continuous with the back legs and joined by two curved cross-rails; the upper cross-rail is decorated with spiral fluting between two series of knobs, and the lower with a shell within an oval compartment, on either side of which are two voluted scrolls enclosing palmette ornament. The two uprights, the sides of the seat and the front legs have each a continuous groove and the front of the seat has gilded geometrical and floral ornament. |
