Physical description
The stock and wedge are enriched with carved floral ornament and punched patterns; on the top is a turned knob, and a peg projects from the side. The body holds a blade wedge of wood and two seperate steel blades.

Object history note
Bought for £3. 3s. from Charles W. Brown 'C.W and J.H. Brown, Antique Furniture and China Dealers', 21 Oxford Street, London, from whom the Museum bought various small items of metalwork, woodworking tools and woodwork 1891-1907, according to the nominal file MA/1/B29J1. This was stock number 9367. (Brown is not listed in Mark Westgarth, A Biographical Dictionary of Nineteenth Century Antique & Curiosity Dealers (Regional Furniture vol. XXIII, 2009)).
Descriptive line
German, 18th c. 70/2741. A plane to form a 5/8" wide sqaure ridge, with side handle and carved and decorated stock, but not dated.
